This post is going to be a social criticism. First of all, to get a clear picture of what I'm talking about, please watch this:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=KB_GoQ-h9Zg

Yes now basically the story is this: 3 British tourists in Singapore got on to this trishaw, agreed on the price of 10 bucks with the old driver, and while traveling complained about it being the "slowest taxi in Southeast Asia"(when the driver is carrying 3 of them for god's sake) They then get off, refuse to pay, and make the old guy look like a beggar.

Now a lot of complaints have been made through the channel of blogs and Youtube, spawning even a New Paper front page story over this incident. After looking through some of the comments people have made, I realized while some of them made sense and were actually quite insightful, the majority were just plain racist( f*** you stupid Brits) or just bad. The criticism I'm going to make is not actually about the slowest taxi thing or the pay-did not pay issue. After all, Bo( the Brit in the video) did actually say he paid, so we'll give him the benefit of doubt. What I'm launching an attack on is the very fact that they made the old guy beg like a,well, beggar for his cash. 3 young Brits bullying an old guy--seems rather lacking in moral conscience, don't you think?

And for those who know me, this following section will seem familiar to you, but seriously, its not a communist-capitalist rant. I'm not trying to promote communism here, but think about it.This issue may just be a single issue, but underlying it could well be a mulititude of social problems that lie with our inherently greedy capitalist society. Face it people, capitalism is greed and selfishness in action. And while it generates wealth and improves the economy, it leads to problems like this as well. Society influences all of us. The behaviour of the Brits, their lack of morals, stem from a society which is concerned about mainly getting rich. I think there is probably a need to step up in moral development, not just in Britain, but perhaps in all countries as well, and for those who know who I am, you know which country in paticular I'm referring to.

Well that's one of my longer posts. Sorry if it bored you people. I'll try to post something more interesting next time.
